To fully understand love, we must understand God. You see, God is love (1 John 4:8). To learn more about love, we should learn more about God.
Throughout the Bible, God expresses his love towards us. The ultimate expression of our Father’s love is Jesus. By sending his son as a sacrifice for each of us, God expresses the utmost in love.
First Corinthians 13 talks about love. It defines love. To gain a better understanding of God, I substituted “God” for “love” in these often-quoted verses (1 Cor. 13:4-8). I believe it expresses God’s heart towards us:
- God is patient
- God is kind
- He does not envy
- He does not boast
- He is not proud
- He is not rude
- He is not self-seeking
- He is not easily angered
- He keeps no record of wrongs
- He does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth
- He always protects
- Always trusts
- Always hopes
- Always perseveres
- God never fails
Why do I share of God’s love? Because the Bible says, “Perfect love casts out all fear” (1 John 4:18). The more you know and receive his love, the less fear you will experience.
Prayer: Father, teach me more about you so that I may learn how to love better.
